Education

Bachelor's degree from Hope College in 1980.  Majors in Business and Secondary Education.  Minor in Marketing and Physical Education. 



Experience

I have taught at Shelby Public Schools since 1985-86.  I taught 6th grade math and 7th grade Physical Education during my first year here.  I then moved to the high school and have taught Business classes, Computer classes, and Physical Education classes.  Classes I have taught include:  Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Human Relations, Introduction to Business, Personal Finance, Computer Applications, Accounting, and all Physical Education classes.  I spent one year as a volunteer assistant basketball coach during the 1984-85 season.  I coached junior varsity girls basketball from 1985-1995.  I then coached the girls varsity from 1996-2007.  I coached junior varsity baseball in 1985, 1986, and 1987.  I have coached the boys varsity basketball team from 1985 to present.  I have coached varsity golf from 2007 to present.



Bio

I was born and raised in Shelby.  My wife Cathy was also born and raised in Shelby.  We were married in 1978.  I worked as a manager of McDonald's in Whitehall in 1980.  We  moved to Gaylord in 1982.  I took a job working as an office manager for a construction company until I took the teaching job back in Shelby in 1985.  My wife and I have a son (Keith) and two daughters (Sarah and Amber).  Keith and his wife (Mary Kay McGovern) have 4 children and live in Byron Center.  Sarah and her husband (Mike Wolting) have 3 children and live in New Era.  Amber and her husband (Jeff Robke) live in Lowell and have 3 children.
