Principal's Corner

Welcome to SHS 2018-2019

It’s hard to believe that it is almost time for the 2018-2019 school year to begin. but it is just around the corner. I am looking forward to having students return to school on September 4, 2018. I hope you have had an enjoyable summer with family and friends. Whether you are new to Shelby HS or a returning student/family, we look forward to you being a part of the Shelby Tiger Family and hope you become involved in our schools. I encourage every student and parent to embrace the opportunity to make this a great school year.

Teachers have been busy over the summer preparing for the 2018-2019 school year. They have participated in professional development to improve the instructional opportunities of students.  Our #1 goal is to improve student learning. So regardless of where your student begins the year, we want to help them advance their critical thinking, knowledge, skills, and ability to problem solve. If at any time you have a question about what is occurring in your student’s class, please contact your student’s teacher. We all need to work together to benefit our students.

Custodians and maintenance staff have been busy cleaning and preparing the buildings and grounds for the return of our students by cleaning rooms, waxing floors, shampooing carpets, etc.  If you see a member of our custodial or maintenance staff, please take a moment to thank them for keeping our facilities in such great shape.

Shelby will continue to provide students with hands-on experiences that require students to think critically and problem solve. We are working hard to prepare your student for jobs that haven’t even been created yet. Researchers predict that today’s students will have 10-14 different jobs by the time they are 40. Students are heading into a workforce where the skills of listening, problem solving, communication, and collaboration with co-workers located around the world, will be essential to compete in an ever increasingly global economy. In addition, the amount of technical information in the world continues to grow at a rapid pace. Integration of technology into schools is an essential and inevitable part of today’s society.  Students must learn and master how to access information, synthesize, and evaluate it, and our 1:1 Chromebook initiative will help us make this happen.

Best wishes for a successful 2018-2019 school year!
